Research Vicedirection

Research Deputy Director: Marta Barluenga Badiola

In order to achieve these objectives, we undertake interdisciplinary research projects in collaboration with scientists from other institutions and promote workshops, seminars, colloquia or any other type of activity aimed at achieving a better knowledge of our natural environment.

The permanent staff of the Research Vice-Direction of the Museum is currently composed of 72 researchers and 24 qualified technicians. The training of scientists is also another of the objectives pursued, and at all times there are about 90 pre and postdoctoral fellows and contractors in the Museum. Furthermore, the Museum is involved each year in about 40-50 National and International projects, and maintains various contracts and agreements  with public and private institutions.

The Research Vice-Direction comprises six Departments: Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology, Evolutionary Ecology, Biogeochemistry and Microbial Ecology, Biogeography and Global Change, Geology and Palaeobiology; a series of Laboratories and three Field Stations (Ventorrillo, La Higueruela and Ore).
