In it's seventh edition, the International Award of Scientific and Nature Illustration has been organised by the National Museum of Natural Science (MNCN-CSIC), the Catalan Scientific Communication Assotiation (ACCC), and the collaboration of the Science and Innovation Ministery through the Spanish Fundation for the Science and the Technology (FECYT), and "la Caixa" Fundation.
The contest closed with more than 500 pieces presented. 40 of them were selected by a professional jury to the itinerant exhibition. Among this pieces, that will be seen around Spain, there are Morfología del Barbudo from Paulo Presti and Paseriformes de Santiago de Chile from Elvis Antonio Salazar, winners of the scientific and naturalist categories, respectively.
Also, there was concedered a special mention to the pieces obras Chotacabra europeo, from Kristina Khlebnikova and Rana de Cristal, from Luis Alonso Diatchenko in the scientific illustration category; and to the pieces Antropoceno, from Juan Francisco Rodríguez García, and El matacaballos, from Camilo Enrique Maldonado Marín, in the naturalist illustration category.
Illustraciencia gives to the people the responsibility to chose the awarded piece of the public award, making possible to achieve one of the goals of the illustration: make the scientific knowledge accessible to everyone, spreading science beyond specialized circles. In this edition, the public award was granted to the piece Limpiador de caballos de Camilo Enrique Maldonado Marín.
