Santiago Ramón y Cajal. Everyone knows this name. We see it in streets, monuments and hospitals of our cities. Maybe we know that he was a spanish scientific that won the Nobel awards many years ago. Also, maybe we know that he was the father of the neural theory, that made possible to start researching the thinking mechanism.   But, who was really Santiago Ramón y Cajal?

The National Museum of Natural Sciences invites you to make a thrilling tour about the life of a men that, thanks to his tenacity and effort made possible that the spanish science could made a enormous jump and finally be reconished by the international scientific community. This tour will show how was the man behind the researcher, which was his passions and how was the path that made him be one of the most relevant figures in the science.

The exhibition includes, among other things, originals of his fascinating drawings that he made (with a exceptional mix of realism and artistic quality) through he was able to see that the eye can't see. Also, there are the tools that helped him to made his groundbreaking discoveries; personal items that make us possible to draw a glimpse of the man behind the myth; distinguished awards of other institutions that remark the value of his investigation and made possible that his name was in the front page of the newspapers, etc. All of this is presided by the most prestigious award that is given to anyone that has made an exceptional contribution of the humanity: the Nobel award.

The sample has been made in collaboration with the Cajal Institute (CSIC), which is the place that all the pieces and things are from the exposition. Also, we celebrate the the centenary of the designation of Santiago Ramón y Cajal as director of the Institute, on 12 November 1920, and the centenary of the activity of this center.
