2 Evolución del sistema cráneo-facial en la familia Hominidae.

3 Excavación y estudio de tafo-sistemas pleistocenos y modelos actualistas en bosque africano primario.

 

Objetivos institucionales

Consolidar en el MNCN la investigación en Paleontología Humana mediante: 1 el desarrollo de proyectos que puedan redundar en nuevos hallazgos; 2 la creación de buenas colecciones de comparación; y 3 el fomento de la cantera de jóvenes científicos.

Biographical note

Licenciado en Biología por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, 1984. Tesis de Licenciatura, 1985. Beca Pre-doctoral de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Doctor en Biología, por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, 1992. Beca post-doctoral (programa Fleming) en el Natural History Museum, Londres, 1993- 1995. Científico Titular del CSIC en el Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, 1999. Profesor de Investigación desde 2008.
Miembro del Equipo Investigador de Atapuerca, 1983-2004. Equipo que obtuvo el Premio Príncipe de Asturias de Investigación Científica y Técnica en 1997. Co-autor de las especie Homo antecessor 1996. Responsable de los estudios antropológicos de los Neandertales de El Sidrón (Asturias) desde 2003. Participación en el proyecto Genoma Neandertal, 2010. Autor del libro ¿Qué sabemos de? Los Neandertales, CSIC-Catarata, 2010. Comisario de la Exposición Los Neandertales: desde Iberia hasta Siberia en el Museo de la Evolución Humana de Burgos, 2012. Premio Talento Comunicativo UCM de Comunicación Científica 2013.Investigador principal de proyectos, autonómicos, del plan nacional y proyectos de la Unión Europea. Autor de numerosos trabajos científicos incluidos en revistas como Journal of Human Evolution, L'Anthropologie, Biology Letters, Nature, Science, PNAS, entre otras.

Member of the Atapuerca Research Team, 1983-2004. Prince of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research with this team, 1997. Co-author of the Homo antecessor species, 1996. Head of the anthropological studies of the El Sidrón site (Asturias) neandertals since 2003. Component of the Neandertal Genome Project, 2010. Author of the book ¿Qué sabemos de? Los Neandertales (CSIC-Catarata), 2010. Commissioner of the exhibition Los Neandertales: desde Iberia hasta Siberia at Museo de la Evolución Humana, Burgos, 2012. UCM Communicative Talent Award for Scientific Communication, 2013. Researcher in charge of several regional, Spanish research grant programme, and European Union projects. Author of research papers published in international journals such as Journal of Human Evolution, L'Anthropologie, Biology Letters, Nature, Science, PNAS, among several others.
