I’m a scientist exploring how nature and society adapt to change. My work focuses on ecological resilience—how ecosystems and communities can absorb shocks, adapt, and even transform when facing challenges like climate change, pollution, or mental health crises. I use ideas from ecology, complexity science, and even quantum theory to understand how change happens—not always in predictable ways. I also believe in breaking boundaries between fields. That’s why I combine science with philosophy, art, music, and social issues to communicate science more deeply and creatively. I’ve worked on lakes, wetlands, rivers and other social-ecological systems across Europe and beyond, helping design policies and tools that support sustainability and long-term well-being. I also collaborate with psychologists, social scientists, policymakers, philosophers and artists to bring new perspectives to environmental and health challenges. Whether it’s through research, writing, or artistic collaborations, my goal is to help us better understand—and live with—the complex systems we’re all part of.

In addition to my position as Research Professor at MNCN-CSIC, I currently hold an Adjunct Professor appointment at the Center for Resilience in Agricultural Working Landscapes at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (USA), and an Honorary Fellowship at the Institute for Mental and Physical Health and Clinical Translation at Deakin University (Australia). Both positions are held pro bono, reflecting my ongoing commitment to advancing resilience and mental health research through international collaboration.

I serve as Subject Matter Editor for Ecology and Society, a journal focused on integrative science for resilience and sustainability. My full publication record is available on Google Scholar.
