The main focus of my PhD is to use a multidisciplinary approach to investigate the origin, genomic architecture, and molecular evolution of population divergence in organisms on oceanic islands that differ from their continental counterparts ecologically and morphologically. I am currently working with complete genomes to infer the evolutionary history of populations and lineages, and to detect signatures of selection and candidate genes in two species: Anna's Hummingbird (Calypte anna) and the House Finch (Haemorhous mexicanus amplus) on Guadalupe Island, Mexico.
